He has spent the last 50 years sharing the great tradition of vocal jazz interpretation and improvisation with audiences throughout the world. He has performed and recorded with as well as opened for some of the greatest of America’s Jazz and R&B Icons\, Joe Williams\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Miles Davis\, Chick Corea\, Cedar Walton\, Ramsey Lewis\, Joe Zawinul\, Aretha Franklin\, George Benson\, Richard Elliot\, Patti LaBelle\, just to name a few. He is rooted in the ancient vocal practices of melodic narrative and has been nurtured by masters of the West African oral traditions. He has likewise spent a lifetime studying and performing this great American treasure\, Jazz! He cherishes the joy of makin’ music and states it with a smile on his face during every performance\, thrilling audiences of all kinds around the world! Fred believes that Music heals and  touches the world\, one heart at a time. “What greater gift than to be a part of creating these experiences for humanity.\, Fred Johnson”\n\nBarbara Schmitz studied writing at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics where she was Allen Ginsberg’s apprentice. She taught writing and literature at Northeast College for thirty years\, founded and coordinated the Visiting Writer’s Series there. Two of her five volumes of poetry have won the Nebraska Center for the Writer awards. Her latest Just Outside was published by Sandhills Press in 2019. Sundown at Faith Regional is forthcoming from Pinyon which published her memoir Path of Lightning: A Seeker’s Jagged Journey about spiritual practice\, relationship and travel with her Sufi guide to India\, Turkey\, Bali\, and Jerusalem. She lives on Highway 81 with husband Bob writing to the rhythms of the Highway River and practicing meditation. \nBayati Music Ensemble \nBayati performs classical Arabic and Middle Eastern Music\, based in Kansas City\, MO. \n\n  \n  \n  \nRabbi David Zaslow\nServes as Rabbi of Havurah Shir Hadash in Ashland\, Oregon\, where he has hosted Sheikh Ghassan Manasra of the Abrahamic Reunion. Rabbi David Zaslow was born in Brooklyn\, New York in 1947. He was ordained in 1995 by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi under the supervision and mentorship of Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield. In the summer of 1996 he became spiritual leader of the Havurah\, which was founded in June 1985. In 2003 he completed his term as a Spiritual Advisor to ALEPH\, the umbrella organization of the Jewish Renewal movement. He is a longstanding interfaith advocate and leader.\nAbed Alsalam Manasra\nSheikh Abd alsalam Manasra is Interreligious Dialogue Lecturer for Rising Tide International in Sarasota\, FL\, the Israeli Programs Manager for the Abrahamic Reunion\, and an ordained Sheikh in the Tariqat Qadriyya As-Salaam (Qadiri Sufi Order Of Peace). He is also a musician and actively organizes interfaith dialogue and gatherings for youth and young adults in and around Nazareth and across the Holy Land\, and interfaith programs in Sarasota FL and internationally. \nSheikh Ghassan Manasra\nSheikh Ghassan Manasra is an ordained Sheikh in the Qadiri Sufi Order in the Holy Land\, and son of Sheikh Abdel Salaam Manasra – head of the Qadiri Sufi Order in the Holy Land. He is the founder of Anwar-Il-Salaam\, the Lights of Peace Center in Nazareth\, and Director of Islamic Cultural Center in Nazareth. He is International Executive Director of Abrahamic Union. \nGhassan is an expert and lectures in Islam\, Islamic history\, Sufism\, and contemporary Muslim issues in the Middle East\, Europe\, and the USA. He is married to daughter of late Sheikh Baghdadi\, renowned Muslim leader\, and Holy Land facilitator in interfaith dialogue projects. Ghassan has received multiple awards and accolades for his peacemaking\, including most recently the 2014 “Outstanding Leader in Interreligious Dialogue Award” from the Dialogue Institute at Temple University. \nDavid Less\nDavid Less is a global meditation teacher\, author\, and peacemaker known for his decades of work in interfaith dialogue and conflict resolution. In the early 1980’s he led The Vancouver Sufi Choir and recorded (with Aziza Cooper) a groundbreaking collection of chants and songs from the world’s many religious traditions. In 1985\, Amir founded and conducted The Universal Gospel Choir\, a powerhouse interfaith vocal ensemble that just celebrated its 40th anniversary. This project envisions the turning from global militarism to global peacebuilding.  Rabbi Yitz is an accomplished musician playing cello\, guitar\, composing and recording his songs. \nPRESENTERS\nJack Kornfield\n\nJack trained as a Buddhist monk in the monasteries of Thailand\, India and Burma. He has taught meditation internationally since 1974 and is one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist mindfulness practice to the West. He is a founding teacher of the Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He holds a PhD in clinical psychology\, and is a father\, husband\, and activist. After being ordained by the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem\, she became the rabbi of Nigun Halev\, a liberal Jewish congregation in the Jezreel Valley. Khalil took part in the annual Bearing Witness retreat in Auschwitz. He is a co-founder of the Abrahamic Reunion with his late wife\, Sana Albaz\, and has been a passionate voice for peace in the Negev and Holy Land for decades. \nTamam Kahn\nTamam Kahn is a poet\, lecturer\, and author of two books about the women in the family of Prophet Muhammad: Untold\, A History of the Wives of Prophet Muhammad and Fatima’s Touch: Poems and Stories of the Prophet’s Daughter. She is a senior teacher in the Sufi Ruhaniat International. She has been immersed in Sufism for 40 years. \nRev. Dr. Gary Mason\n\nThe Rev. Dr. Gary Mason is a Methodist minister who founded and directs the Belfast-based conflict transformation nonprofit Rethinking Conflict. Previously\, he spent 28 years as a Methodist clergyperson in Belfast and played a role in the Irish peace process. \n\nTed Brownstein\nAR USA Board of Directors member Ted Brownstein is a Jewish-Baha’i living in Lake Worth\, Florida with his wife\, Chris. He holds a Master’s Degree in Biblical Hebrew from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. DESCRIPTION:Interfaith Peace Concert in Tel Aviv \nNext month\, on the 9th of October\, we have a very important meeting in Tel Aviv\, in Neve Schechter\, with the Conservative Jewish groups. We will have all the people together – Muslims\, Christians\, Jews\, and Druze. They will come together for a “Melody Meeting.” \nWe will have very professional people with us\, to help heal the people\, to help the people be very aware and very clean people\, how to connect with “the other”. \nWe need to break the ice between the people because the fear stops them. The fear is the very hard barrier between the people. We need to break the ice and to bring them together. \nThis meeting will be spiritual songs\, and singers\, lecturers\, psychologists\, sociologists\, cultural people\, they will come together. \n \n  \nRevisit the Interfaith Music Event from September 2023\, similar to the upcoming October event. \n(Event Photos or Click on the Video) \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Sheikh Ghassan: \n“The Program of the Melody: Smile\, Listen\, and Meet Again”\nThis will be a meeting to break the ice\, because the situation is very difficult all the time. Professor Avi and Ghassan spoke with the people and convinced them come together after a big break in the connection. The problems are not only between the Arabs and the Jews – it’s between the Arabs inside the Arab Society\, and the Jews within the Jewish Society. \nThen we will bring these people together. We will use the spiritual melodies to move their inner sides for soften them\, and soften their hearts\, and after that\, they will come to meet and talk\, and remember that they know one another\, they met before\, and still they are together on the same land\, area\, land\, the same tent\, the tent of Abraham. \nThe leaders will talk and share prayers also\, and give directions to the people about how to stay in connection after this meeting. This meeting will be the gate for the future\, the gate for the Day After The War. This is the beginning of what will happen later\, and how can we use ourselves as tools to stop the war\, to try to stop the war. We know there is craziness in the air\, in the field\, but when we have some craziness we need to get our responsibility to heal the situation. The situation needs some healing\, but we need to work with that. Fasting is a sacred practice in the Abrahamic Faith traditions\, which will be explored and discussed at our online program. In the Holy Land\, the Ramadan fast is 14 hrs long\, so\, after dinner in the US\, if you refrain from eating or drinking\, and skip breakfast\, you can break the fast with us having fasted about the same amount of time. \n\nRamadan Fast Times:\n\nJerusalem: 4:51am – 7:10pm (14hrs\, 19min)\nSarasota: 6:07am – 7:52pm (13hrs\, 45min)\n14hrs prior to 12:10pm EDT = 10:10pm EDT.\n\n\n\nWhat to bring: Dates & Water \nWhether or not you are fasting\, you are invited to bring water and dried dates for the symbolic breaking of the fast\, together. Dates and water are commonly the first items consumed to break the fast in the Holy Land\, providing much needed hydration\, and a burst of sugars to reanimate the organs of the body. \nFasting is a way to be in connection with the Abrahamic connections to fasting\, and to be in connection with those who don’t have enough food to eat\, who are fasting because of famine\, starvation\, lack of aid\, etc\, as in Gaza and in many places around the world. \nThe practice of fasting is traditionally seen as a way of becoming closer to God\, to the spirit\, and further from materiality\, corporeality. It is a practice seen in many traditions outside the Abrahamic Faiths as well\, a a means of purification of body\, mind\, and heart. \n(Muslims outside the Holy Land – we will be symbolically breaking the fast at the Iftar time in the Holy Land\, so of course\, we understand you won’t break fast with us together.)

But there are plenty of signs that G-d / Allah was not One who took pleasure in war. The text creates many limitations and warnings. For example\, in this week’s Torah portion\, the Israelites fight the Midianite. Yet when the Israelite soldiers come back victorious to the camp\, they are “unclean.” Instead of the nation holding a big victory celebration for them\, those who took part in the killing must stay outside the camp for seven days to purify themselves and then must bath before then can re-enter society. This is a sign that war and killing in war were not pure in the eyes of G-d\, even in ancient times.\n\nThe future that the Prophets foresee is a time of peace. Swords will be beaten into plows and the meek (not the strongest fighters) will inherit the earth. He has worked in interfaith dialogue and relations for decades in the Holy Land with Yakar and YESODOT in Jerusalem\, Hebrew University\, as a Co-Founder and Co-Director of Anwar Al-Salaam Lights of Peace Society in Nazareth\, and in many programs with the Abrahamic Reunion\, hosting the 2017 Multifaith Iftar Dinner. He is currently a fellow at the Hartman Institute.\n\nRabbi Shraga Bar-On\, Hartman Institute\n\n\nRabbi Dr. Shraga Bar-On is the Director of the Kogod Research Center for Contemporary Jewish Thought and the David Hartman Center for Intellectual Excellence\, and a lecturer of Talmud and Jewish Thought at Shalem College.\n\nAt the David Hartman Center\, he is responsible for the advanced training of aspiring public intellectuals through the Beit Midrash for Israeli Rabbis\, the David Hartman postdoctoral fellowship\, and the Maskilot fellowship for women pursuing their doctorate. His research in Jewish philosophy and identity addresses a wide range of eras and topics: Second Temple literature\, Mishnaic and Talmudic scholarship\, medieval Jewish literature\, early Zionism\, and contemporary Jewish identity. His books and other works have been published in academic\, popular\, and educational contexts.\n\n\n Druze Sheikh Yunes Amasha\n\nSheikh Amasha\, a native of the town of Ussefiya in the north of Israel\, is a Druze religious leader. As Imam of his community\, Sheikh Amasha is responsible for conducting religious rituals. He is also a member of the Supreme Druze Religious Council in Israel\, headed by spiritual leader Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif.\n\nSheikh Amasha\, one of the Druze members of Beit Morasha’s Municipal Forum for Interfaith Leaders from Mixed Cities\, has now been appointed to the important position of Forum Coordinator.\n\n\n\n\n\nAsked why he had originally joined the Forum\, Sheikh Yunes replied: “The Druze are a peace-loving people\, favoring any initiative that promotes relations based on tolerance\, understanding and acceptance of others. Personally\, having lived all my life in a mixed town\, and often working with members of other communities\, I have come to know Israelis from all ethnicities. Always regarding them as my brothers and sisters in humanity\, I understand the great importance of preserving good relations between the different faiths.”\n\nSheikh Amasha believes that the Municipal Forum for Interfaith Leaders from Mixed Cities serves a critical function: its members become acquainted with each other’s faiths and customs\, and also learn from one another’s experience as faith leaders\, especially in addressing the burning issues of present-day Israeli society.\n\nFinally\, Sheikh Amasha asserts that “The Forum serves as an example for members of all ethnic groups\, demonstrating that despite our different faiths\, we can all live together in peace and brotherhood.”\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLana Shukha Nseir\, AR Women’s Peacebuilding Program\n\nI live in Nazareth where I am an elementary school teacher and I am also a member at the Greek Orthodox Community Council.  I have been in many projects with the Abraham Reunion organization\, for many long years\, and recently I am part of the beginning of a new project for educators.\n\n\n\n \nHanan Halabi\, AR Young Peacebuilder\n\nHanan is 19 years old\, from Daliat-Al Carmel in the North of Israel\, and a member of the Druze faith community. She is a Coordinator of the TRUST WIN\, a member of the  Women’s Parliament and various orgaizations for dialogue and understanding between the cultures\, and for the advancement of women and social issues affecting women.  She is a Druze spokeswoman representing Druze women in national forums.\n\nSheikha Umm Bra’a Najah Kabaha\nSheikha Najah ​is a leader in the Muslim community who lives in the city of Nazareth\, the largest Arab city in Israel. She has worked for interfaith understanding and dialogue through the Qadiri Tariqat as-Salaam\, the Lights of Peace Society\, and the Abrahamic Reunion for many years. She also teaches children and early childhood. \n\n\nFather Firas Diab\nPalestinian Pastor of St. George’s Greek Melkite Church\nFather Firas Diab is the Pastor of St. George Melkite Greek Catholic Church in Zababdeh\, a Palestinian village in the northern West Bank\, and is the grandson of St George’s previous pastor. He has degrees in Philosophy and Theology\, and is often actively building connections either with Western Churches or for solidarity within the Palestinian nation. He is a very active peacemaker with Abrahamic Reunion and has been part of many events including as a leader in the Multifaith Peace March in Bethlehem in 2019. \n\nZeynab Manasra Khatib\nAR Youth Leader \nZeynab is an Abrahamic Reunion Youth Leader from Nazareth\, Israel. She is Muslim and grew up steeped in a culture of peacemaking\, multi-faith dialogue\, and bridge-building across cultures\, identities\, and religions\, participating in the programs of her father Sheikh Ghassan Manasra and learning the art of facilitation from him from an early age. She has been part of programs through her High School\, The Sulha Project\, Jerusalem Peacemakers\, Lights of Peace Society of Nazareth\, Abrahamic Reunion\, and other multifaith projects for the last ten years. She is passionate about working with other youth and young adults\, and has traveled with the AR to speak at events and presentations in the UK\, Germany\, Israel\, and the US. \nRabbi David Zaslow\nServes as Rabbi of Havurah Shir Hadash in Ashland\, Oregon\, where he has hosted Sheikh Ghassan Manasra of the Abrahamic Reunion. Rabbi David Zaslow was born in Brooklyn\, New York in 1947. He was ordained in 1995 by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi under the supervision and mentorship of Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield. In the summer of 1996 he became spiritual leader of the Havurah\, which was founded in June 1985. In 2003 he completed his term as a Spiritual Advisor to ALEPH\, the umbrella organization of the Jewish Renewal movement. She is passionate about working with other youth and young adults\, and has traveled with the AR to speak at events and presentations in the UK\, Germany\, Israel\, and the US. \nRabbi David Zaslow\nServes as Rabbi of Havurah Shir Hadash in Ashland\, Oregon\, where he has hosted Sheikh Ghassan Manasra of the Abrahamic Reunion. Rabbi David Zaslow was born in Brooklyn\, New York in 1947. He was ordained in 1995 by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi under the supervision and mentorship of Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield. In the summer of 1996 he became spiritual leader of the Havurah\, which was founded in June 1985. In 2003 he completed his term as a Spiritual Advisor to ALEPH\, the umbrella organization of the Jewish Renewal movement. He is a longstanding interfaith advocate and leader.\n  \n \nSheikh Ghassan Manasra\nAbrahamic Reunion International Director \n\n\nSheikh Ghassan Manasra was one of the Abrahamic Reunion’s Co-Coordinators in the Holy Land until moving to the US in 2015\, and has been an active contributing Peacemaker with the AR for more than a decade. He is an ordained Sheikh in the Qadiri Sufi Order in the Holy Land\, and son of Sheikh Abdel Salaam Manasra – head of the Qadiri Sufi Order in the Holy Land. He is the founder of Anwar-Il-Salaam\, the Lights of Peace Center in Nazareth\, and  is Director\, Islamic Cultural Center in Nazareth. Ghassan is an expert and lectures in Islam\, Islamic history\, Sufism\, and contemporary Muslim issues  in the Middle East\, Europe\, and the USA. For over a decade he was the Global Dean of the Universal Worship\, an organization in over thirty countries\,that honors the commonality in all religions and appreciates and respects the differences.
