AR Nominated for UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Peace Prize

“Non-violence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our being.”

– Mahatma Gandhi
Dear Friends,

The Abrahamic Reunion’s peacemaking work in the Holy Land has just been nominated for the UNESCO Madajneet Singh Peace Prize. Just to be recognized for this prize is a great honor and makes us more aware that we’re not operating in a vacuum but that we can have a far-reaching affect in the world. It really shows that the AR is an effective peacebuilding organization, keeping the vision of peace in front of as many people as possible.

Upcoming Annual Interfaith Iftar Dinner – 300 People

Last year’s Annual Interfaith Iftar Dinner at Tantur Ecumenical Institute (Click to watch last year’s video) was a huge success – over 160 people attended, and it would have been over 200 people but a large group of people wanted to join at the last minute. Naturally, we’re planning an even larger Interfaith Iftar Dinner for 2-300 people.

Inviting 300 Muslims, Christians, Jews (Ultra-Orthodox and Reformed), and Druze to sit down and eat a sacred meal together is a powerful statement in times where violence, cynicism and separation are the norms now paraded through the media.

These events are effective. It is so necessary right now that there be a protected space where people of different faith groups can relax together for a day. They take this experience back to their communities and touch so many people who weren’t able to be at the event.

We need $20,000 to fund this year’s Iftar which will be at the end of June or beginning of July. These events are so expensive not just because of the kosher food, but to secure army permits and transportation for each person from the West Bank that wants to attend and cross the checkpoints, for transportation for our Peacemakers, religious leaders, VIPs, and participants to come from around Israel, and for the personnel to make it happen.

Visions for 2016

This Fall we’re planning another Interfaith Dinner with a budget of at least $50,000, which will hopefully include over 1,000 people. The budget of the Abrahamic Reunion will be $250,000, almost all of which is spent directly in the Holy Land.

The Abrahamic Reunion’s real work is to hold high the vision of peace and to engage as many people as possible in building peace in the Holy Land.  We are near to involving a lot more people. We need your help.
